SpaceX Plans $100 Billion Spaceport Investment in Louisiana

SpaceX announced a $100 billion investment to build its largest spaceport in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, aiming to support thousands of rocket launches annually and create thousands of jobs.

SpaceX has unveiled plans to invest $100 billion in a new spaceport facility in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, marking a significant expansion of its space launch infrastructure. The project, dubbed Starbase Louisiana, is set to become the company’s largest launch site, designed to support thousands of Starship rocket launches each year and establish the state as a key hub for commercial spaceflight.

The planned spaceport will occupy approximately 125,000 acres along Louisiana’s Gulf Coast. It will feature five launch complexes, each with two launch pads, alongside facilities for propellant production, power generation, rocket vehicle processing, and employee housing. Construction is expected to commence in 2027, with the first launch anticipated in 2029.

Louisiana officials project that Starbase Louisiana could create about 3,000 direct jobs and more than 8,100 indirect jobs, delivering significant economic development opportunities for the region. The investment reflects SpaceX’s strategy to scale up its Starship program, which aims to revolutionize space access through reusable mega-rocket technology.

The new complex is designed to complement SpaceX’s existing Starbase facility in Texas, with Louisiana’s location offering access to coastal launch corridors conducive to a high volume of orbital and interplanetary missions. The project’s scale and scope suggest a long-term commitment to expanding domestic space manufacturing and operational capacity.

This development underlines the growing role of private sector investment in U.S. space infrastructure, offering prospects not only for aerospace manufacturing jobs but also for related industrial activities tied to launch operations, propulsion systems, and advanced supply chains.

SpaceX’s $100 billion commitment represents one of the largest private investments in space infrastructure in recent years, positioning Louisiana as a strategic node in America’s expanding commercial space economy.
