Apple has unveiled a landmark agreement with Broadcom to invest over $30 billion in domestically produced semiconductor chips, marking its largest U.S. manufacturing commitment to date. The multi-year deal, extending through 2031, focuses on the production of custom silicon and wireless connectivity components essential to Apple’s devices.
Under the agreement, Broadcom will manufacture more than 15 billion chips in the United States, notably expanding its manufacturing operations in Fort Collins, Colorado. Broadcom plans to invest $1.5 billion in modernizing and expanding this facility as part of the deal, enabling increased domestic production capacity.
The chips covered by this partnership include custom Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) and FBAR radio-frequency filters that support cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity. These components are critical for delivering the high performance and network capabilities expected in Apple’s consumer electronics lineup.
Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighted that producing these components in the U.S. deepens the company’s investment in American suppliers and strengthens its supply chain. This commitment aligns with broader industry and governmental efforts to enhance domestic semiconductor manufacturing amid global supply chain challenges.
This investment builds on Apple’s broader pledge to invest $600 billion in the U.S. economy over the coming years and reinforces the strategic importance of advanced manufacturing facilities in the country. For the American manufacturing workforce, the deal represents a significant source of demand for skilled labor in semiconductor production and related fields.
