Anduril Industries and the U.S. Navy have unveiled plans to establish a new naval shipyard facility, Arsenal-2, at Tradepoint Atlantic in Sparrows Point, Baltimore County, Maryland. The $6.6 billion project combines $3.7 billion in private investment from Anduril with up to $2.9 billion in funding through a U.S. Navy contract.
This state-of-the-art, software-driven shipyard will span approximately 2 million square feet and focus on producing essential components for the Virginia-class attack submarines. Initial production will include key submarine parts such as torpedo tubes, doors, and hull modules, supporting the Navy’s efforts to ramp up submarine manufacturing.
Construction and permitting activities are expected to begin immediately with operations projected to commence by 2030. The facility is anticipated to generate about 3,100 direct jobs at the site and more than 11,000 indirect jobs in the Baltimore region, offering a significant boost to the local economy and industrial workforce.
Maryland and Baltimore County have offered proposed public funding support of up to roughly $481 million, pending legislative approval, to further back the project.
The initiative aims to expand the domestic submarine manufacturing base, securing critical defense industrial capabilities in the United States. By integrating advanced software-driven manufacturing processes, Arsenal-2 is designed to improve production efficiency and quality in building complex submarine systems.
This investment highlights ongoing efforts to enhance America’s defense infrastructure, ensuring sustained technological leadership and operational readiness of the Navy’s undersea fleet.
