Pirelli to Invest $1.2 Billion to Expand Rome, Georgia Production Facility

Pirelli plans a $1.2 billion expansion of its Rome, Georgia tire manufacturing plant, aiming to boost annual production capacity to 6 million tires by 2033 and create 1,000 new jobs. The investment will enhance advanced robotics and introduce new automated production lines in a two-phase project starting in 2027.

Pirelli S.p.A. has announced a significant expansion of its tire manufacturing plant in Rome, Georgia, with a planned investment of approximately $1.2 billion. The multi-year project, approved by Pirelli’s board of directors, targets increasing the plant’s annual production capacity to around 6 million car tires by 2033 while adding about 1,000 new jobs in the region.

The expansion will roll out in two phases beginning in 2027. The first phase involves enhancing the current production with the latest generation of Pirelli’s Modular Integrated Robotized System (MIRS), set to raise output to 3 million tires annually by 2028. The second phase will introduce a fully automated conventional production facility dedicated to premium tire products, adding an additional 3 million tires per year when fully operational.

Currently, the Rome facility serves as Pirelli’s U.S. headquarters and produces some of the company’s most technologically advanced tires, including products featuring Cyber Tyre technology. The expansion plans reflect Pirelli’s strategic commitment to meeting growing demand in the North American market, particularly in the high-value segment, where innovation and premium quality are key drivers.

Georgia state officials have expressed strong support for the project, noting its potential to bolster local manufacturing employment and contribute to regional economic growth. Most of the hiring for the expansion is expected to start around 2029, with full production capacity reached by 2033.

This investment underscores Rome, Georgia’s role as a vital hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation within the American tire industry. Pirellis ‘enhanced facility will likely support improved supply chain resilience and reinforce domestic production capacity for high-performance tires in the U.S. market.
