Amazon to Invest Over $100 Million in Robotics Manufacturing Facility in Indiana

Amazon plans to build a 585,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing plant in Greenwood, Indiana, creating 300 skilled jobs and aiming to begin operations by 2028. The investment will support production of equipment for Amazon's fulfillment and robotics network across North America.

Amazon announced this week its plans to invest more than $100 million to establish a new robotics manufacturing facility in Greenwood, Indiana. The 585,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing plant is expected to begin operations by 2028 and will create approximately 300 skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs in the Indianapolis area.

This investment marks a significant expansion of Amazon’s domestic robotics production capacity. The new facility will produce equipment for Amazon’s fulfillment centers and robotics network across North America, contributing to the company’s ongoing efforts to automate and streamline its supply chains.

According to Amazon, the Greenwood plant will feature advanced fabrication technologies, including robotic welding, automated powder coating, and assembly processes. These operations will be supported by artificial intelligence-driven manufacturing systems and Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, enabling precision and efficiency at scale.

The creation of 300 new jobs with an average salary near $100,000 represents a notable addition to skilled labor opportunities in Indiana. The facility aligns with broader trends of reshoring advanced manufacturing and investing in high-tech production capabilities that strengthen industrial competitiveness.

The Indiana site will become Amazon’s fourth robot-making plant nationwide, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding its internal robotics engineering and manufacturing footprint. This expansion supports not only operational efficiency for Amazon but also the growth of domestic production capacity for cutting-edge automation technologies.

With production scheduled to start within two years, the Greenwood facility is expected to contribute to the evolving landscape of American manufacturing by integrating AI and robotics at scale. The investment further positions Indiana as a hub for advanced industrial activity and offers employment prospects in technology-driven manufacturing roles.
