Hitachi Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd., has announced a $528 million investment to build a new transformer manufacturing plant in Gallman, Mississippi. The project, unveiled in September 2026, will create more than 700 jobs and marks the largest single investment by Hitachi Energy in its U.S. manufacturing expansion to date.
The new facility will be constructed on a 45-acre site within the Copiah County Industrial Park, located approximately 6.5 miles from Hitachi Energy’s existing plant in Crystal Springs. With a footprint more than twice the size of the current site, the Gallman plant will significantly increase the company’s production capability, more than doubling its transformer production capacity in Mississippi.
Transformers produced at this new facility will cover a range suitable for utility-scale power distribution, supporting the growing demand for grid electrification and modernization in the United States. Construction is scheduled to begin late in 2026, with production anticipated to start in 2029.
This expansion contributes to ongoing efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity for critical electrical infrastructure components, aligning with broader U.S. initiatives to enhance energy security and grid resilience. The new jobs created are expected to support the local economy and underscore Mississippi’s role as a growing center for industrial investment and manufacturing expertise in energy equipment.
The investment at Gallman adds to Hitachi Energy’s broader U.S. manufacturing footprint, which includes additional facilities in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Tennessee. The company emphasizes its commitment to expanding domestic production capabilities to meet increasing demand for transformers and related grid technologies.
