Amazon and Taiwanese server manufacturer Wiwynn have unveiled plans to significantly expand Wiwynn’s advanced manufacturing facility in Socorro, Texas. The $1.6 billion investment aims to enhance U.S.-based production of custom server hardware, supporting the growing demand for data center infrastructure critical to cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
The expansion is expected to create nearly 1,000 new manufacturing jobs by the end of 2027. This growth will raise the total workforce at the Socorro site to more than 2,500 in the near term, with longer-term targets reaching approximately 4,000 employees as production ramps up.
The enlarged facility will bolster the domestic supply chain for server racks and data center components, an area Amazon has prioritized to reduce dependency on foreign suppliers and shorten delivery times. Wiwynn’s Texas plant manufactures critical equipment designed for Amazon’s cloud and AI infrastructure, aligning with broader industry trends to onshore key technology manufacturing.
Officials from both companies emphasize that the Socorro expansion is a strategic component of their commitment to invest in American manufacturing capacity and workforce development. The project adds to Texas’ stature as a growing hub for technology manufacturing and advanced industrial operations.
Amazon and Wiwynn’s collaboration marks a substantial step in strengthening the U.S. technology manufacturing base while generating skilled labor opportunities in the region.
