GE Appliances, a Haier company, announced a major $1 billion investment to transform its Appliance Park complex in Louisville, Kentucky, by shifting dryer production from Mexico back to the United States. The plan calls for putting more than $400 million into converting Building 5 at Appliance Park into a high-output dryer manufacturing facility. This move will be accompanied by an additional $112 million investment to update building infrastructure for washer and dryer platforms, along with $490 million previously committed to enhancing production of front-load washers and combo units in Building 2.
The transition aims to finish refrigeration production in Building 5 by early 2027 and start dryer manufacturing there by late 2027 after a retooling period estimated at 9 to 12 months. Importantly, GE Appliances has committed to retaining employees during this transition with no layoffs associated with the changes. The company projects this expansion will establish Appliance Park as the largest home appliance manufacturing site in the U.S., supporting around 4,700 production jobs locally.
This strategic shift underscores GE Appliances’ commitment to strengthening its American manufacturing base amid evolving global supply chain considerations. By relocating significant production capacity from Mexico back to Kentucky, the company is addressing workforce and production sustainability goals while modernizing its Kentucky operations to better meet domestic demand.
