Caterpillar Posts Highest Ever Quarterly Earnings

Caterpillar reports record third-quarter sales of $20.7 billion, up 17% year over year, alongside a profit of $3.29 billion and strong operating margins, highlighting continued growth in global demand for heavy equipment.

Caterpillar Inc. announced its highest-ever sales quarter in the third quarter of 2026, posting revenues of $20.7 billion, a 17% increase compared with the same period last year. The heavy equipment manufacturer also reported a net profit of $3.29 billion, or $7.13 per diluted share, marking a significant jump from $2.3 billion, or $4.88 per share, in the third quarter of 2025.

The company’s adjusted profit per share rose to $7.20, up from $4.95 a year earlier, reflecting strong operational performance across its global markets. Operating profit increased by 38% to $4.214 billion, with an operating margin of 20.4%, compared to 17.3% in the prior-year quarter. These gains underscore Caterpillar’s effective cost management and robust demand for its products.

Enterprise operating cash flow reached $4.4 billion during the quarter. Caterpillar returned $2 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases, signifying financial strength and commitment to shareholder value.

This strong financial performance reflects ongoing demand in the construction, mining, and energy sectors, where Caterpillar’s machinery plays a crucial role in infrastructure and industrial development. The results also demonstrate the company’s ability to navigate supply chain challenges while maintaining production efficiency.

While this quarter marked the highest sales ever recorded by Caterpillar, the second quarter of 2026 posted slightly higher earnings per share, indicating consistent profitability throughout the year. The company continues to benefit from investments in innovation and expansion in key markets worldwide.

As the global economy supports infrastructure rebuilding and industrial expansion, Caterpillar’s record quarter illustrates the enduring importance of American manufacturing and heavy machinery in powering economic growth.
