Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. announced a significant $490 million investment to expand its existing manufacturing facility, the Savannah Machinery Works, located in Pooler, Georgia. The expansion, revealed in late October 2026, will increase the plant’s footprint by approximately 450,000 square feet and is expected to create more than 220 new jobs in Chatham County.
The project is part of Mitsubishi Power’s strategy to enhance its U.S.-based manufacturing capabilities across the Americas, focusing on gas turbines, steam turbines, and related power-generation equipment. The current facility, which opened in 2010 as the first full gas turbine plant outside Japan, will more than double its production capacity with this expansion.
Enhancements include increased machining capacity, the integration of advanced manufacturing technologies, improved material flow, and updated production infrastructure, all designed to meet the growing demand from utilities and other power customers seeking reliable and efficient electricity generation sources.
Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp highlighted the investment as a continuation of transformational jobs and industrial growth in the state. The expansion underscores the state’s role in the growing energy manufacturing sector, supporting broader efforts to maintain a robust domestic industrial base in power generation technologies.
While a target completion date has not been formally announced, local sources indicate the expanded facility could be operational by early 2029. The investment comes amid increased U.S. demand for advanced turbines to support a diverse energy mix and maintain grid stability.
The move signals Mitsubishi Power’s commitment to strengthening American production capacity and workforce development in critical energy infrastructure manufacturing. The additional jobs and technological upgrades reflect industry trends toward modernization and increased production flexibility to support shifting energy needs.
